Early Cancer Detection

Digital mole mapping helps identify melanoma and other skin cancers at an early, more treatable stage. This increases the chance of effective treatment and better outcomes, offering reassurance for those at higher risk.

Fewer Biopsies

By continuously monitoring your moles over time, our professional mole screening service reduces unnecessary biopsies. Objective documentation distinguishes harmless changes from suspicious ones, ensuring biopsies are only performed when truly needed.

Long-Term Tracking

With full body mole mapping, every detail is digitally recorded, allowing for accurate comparison over months or years. This thorough tracking helps catch subtle changes in your skin, supporting your ongoing skin health journey.

What to expect

When you arrive for your mole mapping appointment at Cambridge Skin and Wellness, you’ll be guided by our friendly team and prepared for a comprehensive digital mole mapping service using DermEngine OptimaScan technology.

During the appointment, high-resolution images of your entire skin surface are captured to create a detailed record. This allows for meticulous monitoring of existing moles and identification of any new or changing lesions. After obtaining the images, our physician reviews the images and does a full body direct examination using dermoscopy. If follow-up care or further investigation is needed, we ensure seamless continuity of care and support every step of the way.

The process typically takes around 30 minutes, depending on the number of moles being assessed. Your privacy and comfort are always prioritised throughout the session.

FAQs

We understand that you may have questions about our mole mapping clinic services. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive and their detailed answers to help you make an informed decision.

Still Have Questions?

Contact Us
  • How long does the appointment take?

Most mole mapping appointments at our clinic take approximately 30 minutes, though the duration can vary depending on the number of lesions being assessed. Our team ensures a thorough and efficient process, valuing your time while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy in documentation for your safety and peace of mind.

  • Is it covered by OHIP?

Total body photography, also known as mole mapping, is not covered under OHIP and costs $350. However, many extended health benefits or health spending accounts may reimburse this fee. Should the screening reveal a lesion requiring further evaluation, all necessary follow-up care or procedures are fully covered by OHIP for Ontario residents.

  • How often should I repeat mole mapping?

For higher-risk individuals, we typically recommend repeating mole mapping every 6 to 12 months for optimal monitoring. After your assessment, Dr. Arnott will provide specific guidance based on your unique risk factors and skin health, ensuring you receive personalised advice for ongoing protection and early detection.

  • Is this the same as a regular skin check?

No, mole mapping is considerably more comprehensive than a standard skin check. Digital mole mapping creates a photographic record, allowing for precise, long-term tracking of your moles over time. This advanced method significantly enhances our ability to detect subtle changes, ensuring the most accurate monitoring and early intervention if needed.

  • Do I need a referral from my doctor or nurse practitioner?

A referral is not required to book a mole mapping appointment at Cambridge Skin and Wellness. However, we appreciate referrals, as they provide us with your complete medical history and enable fully coordinated care. You are welcome to self-refer for this service, and we are pleased to assist you proactively.
